The Thoracic Oncology Program at Hartford Hospital is a unique program which brings together an experienced group of specialists in the treatment of lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and other neoplasms located in the chest.
The program has long been a major referral center for patients requiring thoracic surgery from throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. The department has been innovative in its use of various techniques and procedures including video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), laser therapy and stents, as well as robotic surgery.
Our program is all about teamwork. Every week, experts from Thoracic Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pulmonary Medicine, Pathology, Radiology, and other departments and divisions meet to consider the case of each new patient. Working together, this group works to arrive at a consensus regarding the best course of treatment for each Hartford Hospital patient.
Coordinated, multidisciplinary care is a hallmark of our center, with support groups, nutritional counseling, social service and pastoral support, and integrative therapy such as Reiki available as needed. Oncology nurses provide patient care and patient and family education.
