Our experienced audiologists and vestibular therapists at the Hearing & Balance Center perform the testing and procedures for patients being treated for hearing impairment and balance problems. Advanced therapies such as Bone-Anchored Hearing Aids and Cochlear Implants, and tests such as hearing and balance testing, are performed at our Hartford, West Hartford and Farmington offices.
Audiology Staff:
Heather Carter, AuD
Dr. Carter currently serves as the Assistant Director of Audiology for CT ENT and brings to the team a wide variety of experiences in the field of Audiology. Her interests include Cochlear Implants, Hearing Aids and Assistive Technology as well as counseling patients on the inherent impact of hearing loss.
She graduated from Gallaudet University with both her Masters and Doctoral degrees in Audiology and has spent the last 10 years in the realm of Educational Audiology working closely with families and school systems to ensure student’s access to spoken information in the classroom. She is certified by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and a fellow member of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) and Board Certified by the American Board of Audiology (ABA).
Heather is fluent in American Sign Language and brings to the team the cultural awareness and sensitivity unique to the Deaf community.
Christie Huebner, AuD
Christie has over 20 years of experience in the field of medical Audiology. She spent the last 10 years working for ERN as Hartford Hospital’s Audiologist. In that role, she helped develop a cochlear and
BAHA implant program; structured the infant hearing screening program to include nurse training and equipment monitoring; initiated ototoxic monitoring for inpatients; and expanded Hartford Hospital’s hearing conservation agenda while meeting OSHA guidelines. Most recently, Christie updated her vestibular assessment skills to include VNG technology, the new standard of care for balance testing.
Prior to Hartford Hospital, Christie worked as a medical audiologist at J.F.K. Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson Rehab Hospital in Edison, NJ; the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Lyons, NJ; Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC; and several private practice ENT offices. She attended graduate school at Vanderbilt University.
Christie is a longstanding member of ASHA, recently earning an ACE award for continuing education achievements. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and the CT Academy of Audiology. Christie is active in her community, participating in various youth and service organizations and has assisted the CT Special Olympics as a Healthy Athletes Provider.
Yinda Liu, AuD
Dr. Liu has a wide range of experience in the clinical setting including diagnostic audiology, amplification, cochlear implant, Baha osseointegrated prosthesis, and vestibular function testing. She helped to implement the hearing aid aural rehabilitation program at Connecticut Ear, Nose & Throat Associates, in which she serves as the lead instructor. She is a Chinese Canadian fluent in English and Mandarin.
In addition to her clinical work, she is the primary researcher working with Dr. Marc Eisen on a collaborating study with researchers at Johns Hopkins that investigates the effect of Baha on informational masking. She has also led the audiology team to present at various conferences.
Dr. Liu received her Bachelor degree in Speech Sciences from the University of British Columbia, Canada and her Doctoral degree from University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Dr. Liu is also a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA).
Susan Rostron, AuD CCC-A, FAAA
Dr. Rostron has ten years of experience in the field of Audiology. She has worked in a variety of settings, broadening her scope of practice to include diagnostic audiology, amplification, aural rehabilitation, and hearing protection. She also has a specific interest in new technology and the future of connectivity for the hearing industry.
After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park, Dr Rostron received a Masters of Arts in Audiology from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. She has a Doctoral degree from Salus University in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania.
In addition, she is a member of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association and holds a certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology. Dr. Rostron is also a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.
