Our Vision
The Department of Nursing Education promotes lifelong learning and quality patient care by providing education, training, and development to all nursing staff in a cost effective, flexible manner, utilizing principles of evidence based practice and the latest technology. The work of the department is driven by the values of Hartford Hospital, ANA Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development, and continual assessment based on the needs of the services and the organization.
Educational Opportunities for Nurses:
Cardiovascular Nursing EducationThe Henry Low Heart Center at Hartford Hospital provides a comprehensive education program for all new nurses in Cardiology to meet the necessary elements of performance required for all nurses entering cardiology.
Continuing Education CoursesHartford Hospital is a unique provider of the widest array of educational offerings both in the classroom and in the clinical setting.
EMS CoursesHartford Hospital offers EMS courses throughout the year. Many courses qualify for certification at the state and/or national level.

Nursing Touch ValidationNurses and PCAs can now offer Reiki and/or Therapeutic Touch as part of their overall care plan.
HHSN Alumnae Nursing Scholarship Program
The Alumnae Association of the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing has created a scholarship program for HHSN Graduates, or immediate family members of a HHSN Graduate.
Simulation CenterParticipants train in settings similar to their actual work environments, in an atmosphere of realism.
Winter Watch Student Nurse Work/Study ProgramThe Winter Watch Program provides the senior year nursing student with the opportunity to partner with a Registered Nurse Preceptor in a work/study environment in order to learn about Hartford Hospital’s innovative nursing practice while increasing their competency in caring for the adult acute care medical/surgical patients.
