Adult Volunteer Program
18 years of age or older & out of high school
Completing an online application is the first step to becoming a volunteer. Applications are reviewed weekly by Volunteer Services and potential candidates are contacted for an interview. During the interview process, applicants can share more detail about their interest in volunteering, obtain answers to questions they may have and learn about the Department of Volunteer Services, our requirements for volunteering and more details about current volunteer openings.

Applicant Requirements:
Applicants who are offered a volunteer role will be required to:
- Complete Hospital Orientation
- Complete HIPAA Training
- Provide proof of MMR and varicella vaccination or immunity
- Provide documentation of a current (within 12 months) PPD test
- Provide documentation of Flu vaccine (during flu season only)
- Provide documentation of a COVID vaccine and a booster as soon as eligible
- Complete an authorization for Criminal Background Check

College Students
Volunteer placement is based on skills, interests, and availability. College applicants are required to meet the 6 month (or two semester) minimum commitment. If you will receive academic credit for volunteering you must be processed through the department of Medical Education. Please call 860.972.4187 for more information.

Summer VolunTEEN Program
The application process for the 2023 Summer VolunTeen program has been filled. Please check back in December 2023 for information about the 2024 program.

The department of Volunteer Services at Hartford Hospital offers an exciting teen volunteer opportunity for students who may be considering a career in healthcare. We are looking for students who are driven to help others and would like to learn more about a hospital setting.
Applicant Requirements:
- Attend Mandatory Information Session in February
- 14 – 18 years of age (or will turn 14 by the first day of the program)
- Available a minimum of 6 of the 8 week program
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 (B average)
- Available to volunteer weekly:
- One 8-hour shift (8 a.m. – 4 p.m.) OR
- Keep two 4-hour shifts but remove (8-12 noon or 12 noon-4)
- Monday through Friday shifts for a total minimum of 48 hours for the program
- Attend at least one mandatory educational session during the program. Educational opportunities may include:
- Discussion about planning for a medical career
- A tour of the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation
- Mental Health First Aid Training class
