Adult Volunteer Program

18 years of age or older & out of high school

Completing an online application is the first step to becoming a volunteer. Applications are reviewed weekly by Volunteer Services and potential candidates are contacted for an interview.

During the interview process, applicants can share more detail about their interest in volunteering, obtain answers to questions they may have and learn about the Department of Volunteer Services, our requirements for volunteering and more details about current volunteer openings.

Applicant Requirements:

Applicants who are offered a volunteer role will be required to:

• Complete Hospital Orientation
• Complete HIPAA Training
• Provide proof of MMR and varicella vaccination or immunity
• Provide documentation of a current (within 12 months) PPD test
• Provide documentation of Flu vaccine (during flu season only)
• Complete an authorization for Criminal Background Check

College Students

Volunteer placement is based on skills, interests, and availability. College applicants are required to meet the 6 month (or two semester) minimum commitment.

If you will receive academic credit for volunteering you must be processed through Volunteer Services and Human Resources.

Summer VolunTEEN Program

The Hartford Hospital Volunteer Services Department is pleased to announce that registration for our 2025 Summer VolunTeen Program, Mandatory Information Session, will open on Saturday, 01/25/2025 at 9AM. Please bookmark this page, and return here to register for the Mandatory Information Session at 9:00AM EST on Saturday, 01/25/2025.

Cutoff date for registration is Friday, January 31^st, 2025 or when registration is full. Please note that we will only be accepting a maximum of 125 attendees and the session fills up fast.

Please review important information about the program below:

Applicants:

• Must be 14 – 18 years of age (or will turn 14 by June 23^rd)
• Available at least 6 of the 8-week program (June 23^rd through August 15^th)
• Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B average)
• Available for one 8-hour shift per week or two 4-hour shifts per week (between the hours of 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.) Monday through Friday for a minimum total of 48 hours
• Required to attend at least one educational session during the summer.
